Affiliate Marketing for Dummies

If you have ever spent any amount of time online looking for an informative affiliate marketing for dummies guide, odds are you have found that the internet is loaded with programs full of empty promises. Sites that promise you can make a six figure income with little to no effort, all from the comfort of your beach chair. While pages full of empty promises may have you ready to give up all hope of starting an online business, you will be shocked to learn that a technique exists that is available to all, and is easy enough for anyone to learn.

What it is this technique you may ask? Well it is affiliate marketing, sometimes more commonly known as internet marketing. Now before you go thinking that this method is just another form of a scam, your fears could not be further from the truth. When used in conjunction with article marketing, these techniques give people from all walks of life the ability to promote one, or more, of over 10,000 products that exist on the market.

Bought a new dog toy that Fido absolutely loves? You can promote it. Totally in love with your new 3D TV and want to spread the word, you can promote that as well. With affiliate marketing, you are freed from the nearly impossible task of getting referrals for one of the many “get rich quick” programs that claims to help you make millions, but provide its members with no training on how you are supposed to make those claims a reality.

How does Affiliate Marketing work, you may ask? Here is a good example.

As a dog owner, I am always on the hunt for rugged dog toys that my Mini Schnauzer will not destroy in a short amount of time. In the dog toy realm alone, you have the option to promote products from Amazon.com, Petco, and PetSmart, just to name a few. So far, one of the tried and true toys I have found for my Mini Schnauzer is the ChuckIt Eratic Ball dog toy.

Since I am already an affiliate with PetSmart, I will use them as an example. Since this dog toy comes in three sizes, the price ranges from $7.99 to $9.99 and associates of PetSmart earn 8% on each sale that they make.  Quick calculations show I can make as little as 0.64 cents on the sale of just one dog toy. While this may not sound like much, imagine if you had 100 or even 1000 users make a purchase via this link. All of a sudden your 0.64 cents turns into $64 or even $640. Not bad for an almost $8 item. The best part is once a user clicks on your product link, you get credit not only for the item you referred them with but with any other item they choose to purchase during that shopping trip.

How do I get started in Affiliate Marketing?

Getting started with affiliate marketing is much simpler than you may think. All that is involved is to choose a niche, choose a domain name for your website in that niche, and then select one or a few similar products in that niche. Once you have those basics down, you will need to locate at least one product supplier who offers an affiliate program in the product of your choice. Why more than one? Well, it’s to ensure you get accepted by a program in your niche of choice. Some programs can be a bit pickier than others when it comes to accepting new affiliates and if you have your heart set on promoting products from just one company, it may be a bit heart breaking should they deny you for whatever reason. Having multiple irons in the fire, so to speak, increases your chances of successfully partnering up with a company in the niche of your choice. Then all that is left is to repeat this process for as many products as you like ensuring you will build a successful online business for years to come.
